Bakery & pastry distributors / importers
Wholesalers who carry imported bakery products for shops and restaurants.
For owners & export directors at Central-European food producers
Swedish fresh bread does not travel through the retailers' own warehouses. A separate bread-distribution trade delivers competing brands to shops in the same truck. For a foreign bakery that means frozen, bake-off or a Swedish partner, not a direct shelf listing.
In short
Bakery & Pastry importers and distributors in Sweden are the companies that resell bakery & pastry. They include bakery & pastry distributors / importers, industrial & in-store bakeries and HoReCa & foodservice wholesalers. The main buyers are ICA, Axfood and Coop. Before a first meeting, buyers want: IFS Food, BRCGS or FSSC certification, which Swedish supplier forms name directly. They also expect swedish labelling on retail packs, with product data filed in the national system.
To find bakery distributors in Sweden, choose your route before you choose a buyer. First, the central buying desks at ICA, Axfood through its Dagab arm, and Coop. Central buying is the only retail route open to a producer without a Swedish company number. Second, the bread-distribution firms that carry fresh bread to shops for several brands at once. Third, in-store baking desks, because Swedish grocery runs a named bake-off category. Fourth, foodservice wholesalers such as Martin & Servera, Menigo, Svensk Cater and Snabbgross. Swedish buyers ask for a third-party food-safety certificate, and name IFS, BRCGS or FSSC on their own supplier forms. Retail packs need Swedish labelling. Bulk goods delivered to a professional kitchen for further preparation do not, which makes foodservice an easier first step.
You bake well and Sweden looks like an orderly, English-speaking market. It is, and the door is still narrow. The largest chain does not take suppliers without a Swedish company number on its local route. Fresh bread reaches shops through a bread-distribution trade you have never heard of. Your realistic openings are frozen and bake-off, foodservice, and own-brand. We close that gap, in English, with the route chosen before you approve a name.
We do not send you a list to chase. We book meetings with the Swedish buyers who carry bakery & pastry. You approve every company first.
Wholesalers who carry imported bakery products for shops and restaurants.
Bakeries that buy semi-finished or part-baked goods and finish them in their own ovens.
Delivery and cash-and-carry wholesalers who supply hotels and restaurants.
The people who choose the bread and frozen bakery range at supermarkets.
Typical products: bread & rolls · frozen & bake-off bakery · viennoiserie & pastry · cakes & fine bakery
We check that each buyer fits what you can supply. So your first meetings are with companies you can really deliver to.
Three groups hold most of Swedish grocery: ICA, Axfood and Coop. Lidl is growing in discount. Buyers work in English as a matter of course. They decide on data and documents. Sustainability decides listings here, not just image. Buyers ask for a documented climate footprint, recyclable packaging and certificates such as KRAV, Sweden's own organic label. Own-brand (private label) is strong and bought centrally. That makes Sweden a realistic own-brand entry for producers with the right certificates. A Swedish listing also opens Norway and Denmark. The Nordic countries work as one region with national buying desks.
In bakery, Sweden has a delivery layer most exporters never see. Fresh bread largely bypasses the retail warehouses and moves through bread-distribution firms with their own terminals. They carry rival brands in the same truck, so getting into that truck matters as much as getting the listing.
| ICA | Market leader — independent ICA merchants + central buying |
|---|---|
| Axfood | Willys (discount) and Hemköp (supermarkets) + Dagab wholesale |
| Coop | Consumer cooperative — strong sustainability profile |
| Lidl Sverige | Hard discount — growing share |
| Foodservice wholesalers | Martin & Servera, Menigo — the way into restaurants and canteens |

“Full professionalism at every stage, from the strategy and the selection of contacts, through organising the process, to ongoing support.”
A trade agent sells through their own contacts and takes a commission. A consultant writes you a plan and leaves you to carry it out. We put you in the room with bakery buyers you approved, take no commission, and you keep the relationship.
That is true of the local store route at the largest chain, not of the market. Central buying, foodservice and own-brand are all open to a foreign producer. A Swedish importer or distributor covers the rest.
Then Sweden is harder, and it is worth knowing early. Fresh bread depends on a delivery network you would have to buy into. Frozen, part-baked and bake-off travel, so that is usually where we aim you.
Most producers we meet reach one desk, usually retail or one wholesaler. We open the other chains, the bake-off desks and foodservice. You approve every company, so we never write to a buyer you want to protect.
You do not need to. Swedish buyers work in English for first contact, meetings and contracts. You will need Swedish labels on retail packs once you list.
You never chase silence. Only buyers who already agreed to talk reach your calendar. You spend no time on the rest.
Start with the central buying desks at ICA, Axfood through Dagab, and Coop. Add the bread-distribution firms that deliver to shops for several brands at once. In-store baking desks and foodservice wholesalers such as Martin & Servera and Menigo complete the map.
Choose frozen, part-baked or bake-off formats, because fresh bread depends on a Swedish delivery network. Bring IFS, BRCGS or FSSC certification and Swedish labelling for retail packs. Then approach central buying, foodservice or an own-brand desk directly, in English.
On retail packs, yes. Bulk goods delivered to a professional kitchen for further preparation may stay in a language the buyer understands. That is one reason foodservice is often the quicker first listing for a foreign bakery.
Swedish bakery fairs run for two days a year and move around the country. Central buying desks review ranges on their own calendar. We open those talks all year, and you approve every company first.
We open the same buyer conversations all year. You approve every company and every message before we approach anyone. See exactly how it works.
